I am in need of a blank Ontario bill of sale for an upcoming boat purchase. Where do i find this document? Does anyone out there know if I have to pay PST or GST on this private (no dealer) purchase? Thanks for your thoughts!

You make up your own bill of sale. If you need an example, search the web. However, I suggest you not put a lot of legalize in the document. It tends to sour some deals.

No GST on private deals.

Just to add a tip to Skategoats reply, DO NOT put a lower purchase price on the bill of sale from what you actually paid, in order to save a few bucks on PST, If you do find yourself in a legal dispute then all your going to be able to recover at best is what the figure is on the bill of sale, and if a Judge "Judy" hears your case and acknowledges your fraud you'll be tossed and get proof that boat is Lein Free no outsatnding loans. Good luck with your boat purchase

Make sure you keep a copy of pst paid !!!!!Twice now I've had to prove I paid pst months after the sale. You would think If I can spend the time to go down to pay the tax the least they could do is pass the info on.

Jim

If you are buying the boat the seller should be making up the bill of sale at whatever agreed upon price. You don't say what kind or how big a boat but if it has more than a 10hp motor you are supposed to have it registered through Canada Customs, if the seller has the paperwork they can sign it over to you but you still have to go to Canada Customs and get the name changed to yours, they will remind you about paying the PST at this time.
