It ran very rough and sucked a lot of gas. I was also having trouble starting before but I never messed with the throttle because the controls were hooked up. I disconnected the controls while I rebuilt the carb. After the rebuild I tried to start before hooking up the controls and found that the only way I could start the motor was with the throttle high. I also replaced the plugs and cables.
After the carb rebuild did you adjust the low speed needle while idling on your boat?
For what its worth, I have the same motor usually start at high throttle. Then allow it to warm-up then slow it down to shift.
