Seloc has an online manual for the same price as the hardcopy. Does anyone use an online repair manual? Are the digrams and pictures eaiser to view and understand?
If you just have one engine to work on I suggest you buy a FACTORY service manual.
The aftermarket manuals are better than nothing.......but many things are generalized,non-specific, or flat out incorrect.
Seloc had a trial for their online manuals once.......I tried it and didn't like it. I have a hard copy of about all their printed manuals and they are better than having nothing at all......but I also keep a copy of the Clymer manuals to double check the data because I've seen it be wrong before.
Bought a CD version of the official VW Passat manual and was very disappointed. I know we may be talking apples vs oranges here, but my monitor and printer did not give the clarity of a book. Also, the Seloc and Clymer books do not give the detail of the OMC books as they try to cover too large a range of engines/years in one book. My advice- buy OEM manual in printed form, (www.outboardbooks.com for older OMC engines)
The main problem with online manuals and for that matter compact disc manuals is that unless your computer is in your work shop or you drag your outboard into your computer room, you will have to do a lot of washing your hands and running back and forth. When you know exactly what you need, you can print the needed pages so you can take them to your garage or shade tree, but in that case why not simply get the book??
Buy the paper manual, I did the same thing but went with the disc, you have to scan through reems of stuff to find what you need then print it out to take out to the garage, it is worth the extra little bit to get a factory manual.
