I have a small trailer that I use to carry a 14' boat. Nothing fancy, no brakes on the trailer or anything like that. Last year I had a new axle and hubs installed after the old ones burned up. After getting the trailer ready for spring and changing the grease in the bearings I've taken it for a couple of short test drives to make sure all is well, maybe 10 minutes each most of which is at 55 mph. In both cases when I got back one hub was cool to the touch and the other was warm. Definately not hot, not even close to being uncomfortable to touch, but very noticably warm.

Is this something to be concerned about, one wheel warming up and the other not? I'd be very grafeful for any tips here as I'd really like to avoid a repeat of last year's trauma.

Warm to the touch is O.K. You might have the warm hub set a little bit tighter than the cool one. Since you can touch it after running the highway, they should be fine.

Don't forget, a tire can warm up a hub too.

Underinflation is the trailer tires nemesis.

I would open up the warm one and re-set the bearings, it won't take a couple of minutes and then you will be sure.. it most likely is a little bit too tight.. ;)
