I have a 1988 Johnson 90 h.p. v-4, it will crank up and run on one cylinder. I changed the stator and a coil and it fires on all cylinders with the plugs out. When I install the plugs it will crank up and run on the #1 cylinder, the others are firing but don't affect the engine when the leads are removed from the other plugs. I can hear them firing, but the do not fire in the cylinder. Any ideas.

Compression should be approx 100+ psi and even on all cylinders.

Spark, WITH THE S/PLUGS REMOVED, should jump a 7/16" gap on all cylinders with a strong blue thick lightning like flame.

If the above is as it should be, in all probability the carburetors are fouled and will require removing, cleaning, and rebuilding.
