One of those "Happiest day of a boat owner's life" yesterday

So after posting on Craigslist, renewing the posting every other day, sifting through the inevitable scam e-mails offering to purchase the boat if we could have it shipped to Angola, showing the boat to three or four tire kickers, one demo fiasco where the screw that holds the warmup lever in the remote control came off and jammed the control necessitating a complete disassemble and reassemble of the controls (did not make the sale), yesterday I sold my Yarcraft Yankee. In going through the sales pitch it occurred to me how much I had learned about boats and motors with this particular setup, and how much "sweat equity" I had invested in this little vessel. It served me and my family well as an introduction to the world of boating (the good as well as the bad). We had three great summers of boating, tubing, fishing, and cruising around despite the mechanical down-time when something went wrong with the motor. I had gotten to the point of knowing is something was not right with the boat just by the way it sounded or how it was riding on the water. Although I am very excited about our new 17' Stingray bowrider, I couldn't help but feel a little sad as the Flying Plantain went travelling down my street and out of my neighborhood attached to someone else's truck. I can only hope that the new owners find as much enjoyment from that little boat as my family and I did.

Thanks for sharing . . . today is going to be the other happiest day of boat ownership for me. I go pay for my new-to-me 33 footer. :D

Kinda' funny how attached you get to 'em isn't it. I had to drop my last boat of at the purchasers house ... sniffle. ;)

Congratulations on the new boat.

I agree. Sold my old boat after 16 years to get a new larger one that I have wanted for years, but there sure were a lot of good family memories tied to that boat. Hope the new one produces the same.

STILL miss EVERY ONE of my previous boats! But very happy with the present one also. Just something about a boat, you definitely grow attached!

sure wish I could say that but wouldn't be true .... there are a few that I really hated to see go, a few that I couldn't be happier that they are gone, and some that I enjoyed but was ready to move on .... our current boat is the only one I've ever owned that if/when the motor goes bad, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new replacement .... if/when it changes hands, I have on doubt I will be very sorry to see it go

I miss the ones I've had, too- until I get honest with myself and remember why I sold them.

21' Pro-Line walkaround cuddy outboard- my first boat. I learned SO MUCH from it. It absorbed a ton of newbie abuse and kept on going, but it was useless for anything but day trips.

24' Chris Craft express- The best-riding, best snotty weather hull I've ever experienced on a boat under 30'. It was the boat that NEVER pounded. Had a perfectly-matched drivetrain, too (Volvo 5.7 duo-prop). It was cheap to run, fast, agile and a delight to drive. I miss it like hell until I remember that the cockpit layout, cabin layout, cleat placement, etc... were all simply awful.

Nice 6-pack, who's the sea monster? I've had my boat for 26 years and I rue the day I'll have to let it go. Any tips for dealing with the emotional attachment? The boating/fishing experiences I have had are priceless. If boats are like women, the only known cure for a breakup is a quick replacement, and then the process starts all over again.
