Every have one of those days when you should have just stayed home???? Well, I had an entire weekend like that this past weekend....
Saturday...heading up to my brother in law's for a family get together. Stopped by my parents cottage on the way and took my son tubing with my dad's boat for a few minutes. No problems. Got my 97 SPX off the lift to take a little spin. It didn't start right away, which was weird, but I got it going. Ran fine, came back in and pulled up to the neighbor's dock to pick up my son....not knowing it was awfully shallow. Sucked a couple rocks into the impeller, one of which is now stuck and won't allow the ski to even turn over. That's tonight's project.....ugh.
So I put it on the lift with plans to stop back yesterday on my way home to see if I can fix it. Decide it would just be easier to pull it out and do it at home. We don't have a ramp, but do have a low spot where we can get a trailer down to the water. I didn't have my Ram with me, was driving the Caravan...and didn't think it was a good idea, but my dad said we might as well try. Got the trailer down to the water, loaded the ski and tried to pull it out...no deal, nothing but spinning tires and flying grass. Normally I'm the one to try stupid ideas, but in this case, dad says well, let's just unhook the van, get it forward onto solid ground and then hook a rope to the trailer and pull it up. As hard as it was for me to believe, the plan worked perfectly....right up until the point that my dad got out and didn't get the van shifted into park...it was still in REVERSE. Luckily we had about 30 feet between the van and the ski....as he was rolling backwards, I got the ski and the trailer turned sideways a bit. He hit the brake just as it bumped into the side of the ski. Small dent in the bumper, but at least the van didn't swim...lol.
Got it pulled up, ready to head home and go down to put the cover on HIS boat. We have it partially cranked up on the lift and are both in the boat snapping the cover when BAM!!!!!, the cable let's go and the boat and us fall a foot and a half to the water. Luckily (again) nobody hurt, but it was just the ultimate ending to what was a most useless weekend.....never had so much go wrong in such a short time. Hopefully the rock will come out of the ski without much trouble. I may just stay home and watch TV next weekend...not sure I'm up for so much excitement again...lol
