All,
I currently looking at adding a 2 bank charger to my boat. My concern is do these chargers cause any backfeed due to the connections on each battery. To better illustrate, I am currently using a battery switch with off, 1, 2, and both selections. With the charger installed and my battery selector on lets say Battery No. 1, will it now really be both batteries due to the charger?

Also, if you have any suggestions for charger makes/models I'd love some input. I'm also looking to replace my old 27 sized interstates as they bit the dust last season. Oh, and on a budget so I love to stay below $150 for the charger.

Thanks!

Re: Onboard 2 Bank Battery Charger

A fully isolated dual bank charger will not be affected but the switch setting. The charger will not act as a link between the batteries as its fully isolated (it acts like 2 seperate chargers)

chargers now have tricks build in like auto transfer (like a acr but limited to low amps) and charging boost (when one battery is full then the other battery gets charged at a higher rate).
dual bank chargers have 3 fuses so if anything goes wrong they will disconnect by blowing a fuse.
