*454 Mag Mpi Horizon stand starting.

Hello all,
First time post
I have just spent the last 4 months
Pulling down and completely rebuilding 2 x 454 mag mpi Horizon motors. I would like to start the motors on the stands i have built, before installing back into the boat. So i am after someone experienced in this area with some help on what needs to be connected to start them on stands.
I am aware i need
Fuel
Battery
Water ect...
But as the second part of the harness is still in boat, some guidance here on what needs to be connected would be greatly appreciated.
Motors from Searay 34 Dancer 2000 model
Thanks in advance*
Aaron....

Hi there Aaron, welcome to iboats!

Years ago we had an iboats member do a short video of how to start the engine on a stand, This should help get you headed in the right direction as far as hot wiring (jumping) the system goes, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUoXFIo2Ab8

I have run my carb'd 7.4L engine on a stand, but not my MPI engines. The gasoline and water connections are easy. To make matters simple on the electrical connections, I just got the wiring diagram that shows the pin assignments on the main connector. Then I put a wire with a bullet connector in the pin locations for the ignition and the starter. I also hooked at couple of large wires to the 12V connection on the start and a ground to the flywheel housing.

The run the engine, I connected the 'ignition wire to the battery, and then just touched the starter lead to the battery momentarily.

Depending on the wiring all you should have to do its run a + wire to the coil + or to the red or pink wire at the coil . This will power up everything so that you just have to jump the slave solenoid large posts

I have run my MPI on the stand. I used my computer with the Diacom software loaded as the 'Instrument panel'. Just hook battery, water, fuel and exhaust as you would normally, and hook up the computer via the provided test plug. Then go to the 10 pin plug and short pins 6 and 5 (this provides power to the ignition system), touch pin 6 to 7 to crank the engine. When you want to stop the engine, just remove the link between 6 and 5.
