10 hours of grilling yesterday?!!!!! If the Democrats can't say anything else, they'll have to admit he's durable.

Of course a great deal of that time was spent by the Senators orating. Senators love nothing better than the sound of their own voice.

Yep, elections have consequences.

Eventually the pendulum will swing back once people realize what those consequences are.

Alito has been well schooled in how to not say anything, and it is hard to get in trouble for what you say in that case.

Let's get him confirmed, seated, and overseeing America... he will do well for us.

PW, of course he didn't say anything - the senators didn't give him a chance to say anything! This isn't about Alito telling the Senate what he believes or how he thinks, it is about the Senators getting 30 minutes to spout off about what THEY think of Alito.

PW2,

Knock off the cynicism and tell us whether or not he is qualified in your book . . .

I am not exactly sure what you mean about consequences, but if it is that winning the presidency means you get to select Supreme Court justices, then we agree.

These hearings are a farce. All the Senators know how they'll vote long before the hearings. They are a complete waste of time. It's all about partisan politics.

While I didn't wade through all the hearings, I'd have to say from what I have seen he is qualified. He does worry me a bit, for sure.

Time will tell.

Looks like the senators are good at making his wife cry is about all. Then we can have fat Ted grill him on ethics. He certainly ought to know about thoes. He will be confirmed, the dem. senators just have to show off for thier voters.

You notice Im an independent today, gotta be after watching some of that carp.

His colleagues of up to 40 years are testifying now. Their opinions of Judge Alito are far more telling than any Senator making speeches about how they want him to rule on future cases or praising him or browbeating him over trivia.

I think he is a winner.

Ted Kennedy is a disgrace. This is a hearing not a charactor assassination. The senate was to be the house of the highest integrity. He has dragged the senate's reputation right down there with rap stars. What a sad state of affairs. Anyone who would vote for this disgusting pig should have their head examined.

I understand having checks and balances but I wonder what makes these (either side) Senators worthy of judging him or anyone else.
Another dog and pony show.

Re: On Samuel Alito

Never before in my life have I ever had such a bad feeling about someone as I do with Alito. Look past the demo/repub angle and consider the man on his own merits in the hearings. He is trying way too hard, comes across as someone that “needs” the job as a Supreme Court justice. Have to wonder why he felt the need to lie thru his teeth about his club affiliations while in college. Who cares about them!?! Thinking we would have been better off with that other lady Bush had up there before Alito.
