Was sent this video link by a friend. It's clips from car 'dash-cams', and it is NOT for the faint-hearted!

As I have spent a lot of time in Russian, and a lot of the scenes and streets look a lot like the sorts of places I was driving, I can vouch for the fact that this really is the way some of them drive. We think 3 things play the most significant factors, Speed, Ice and Alcohol... (not necessarily in that order ;))

Hold on to your hat!!

Re: Omg!!!

The apparent addiction and use to dash cams is amazing. I wonder when it will spread to the USA with a similar amount of use?

With the "law enforcement" dash cams they record and always have an additional 45 seconds added to the beginning of each event.

When a person is seen speeding (or any other violation) and the cam is activated ....it will add the first 45 seconds to a video.

LOL one of the deputies I know had a malfunction and it recorded while parked ........ ALL night long.

Electrical gremlins live in all of the cars........ It just activated on it's own - a close friend who is the Chief of Police in another town had his siren go off in his driveway at 4 AM this past summer....... the neighbors ere NOT impressed.

Police cars are electrical nightmares.

It would be interesting to see what type equipment the people in Russia are using. Achris....any insight? Allot of the pictures I have seen are pretty good quality........

Re: Omg!!!

I can see from all the videos of the car crashes, chases, (meteorite falling last year) that all drivers in the Russia need some sort of recording device to CTA against legal issues.

Re: Omg!!!

It's not just Russian. I have a friend who told me of something that happened in court here (Australia) recently. A guy was being charged with a driving offence (after an accident) and was going to plead not-guilt. The girl whose car he hit had a dash-cam. When the defence was presented with the cam footage, he changed his plea to guilt.

I've been considering getting one for some time... Maybe now I will....

Which is exactly why most, if not all, Russians have one. I read (but cannot verify) that some, if not all, insurance companies in Russia require them.

I went on an academic tour of the Soviet Union for 3 weeks in 1984 when there were only a small fraction of the number of cars that there are now and even then it was nuts. You would swear that most of them were driving with their eyes closed and the gas pedal on the floor. Only thing that's changed is roughly 50 to 100 times as many cars, maybe more. I've watched dozens of these videos on youtube and I have to say a lot of those folks are very skilled at dodging disaster but are still mostly unbelievably bad drivers, especially the truckers.

I think car cams should be in all cars. One to see the road ahead and another to watch you NOT be on the cell phone/texting.

Looks like there are a bunch of Guardian Angels hard at work in Russia.:faint2: By the way driving in the middle east can be just as hair raising, or hilarious depending on if you are in one of these situations or watching one.
