well i have replaced impellor and water pump and all seals and also decided to rub down sterndrive and prime and paint BUT in doing this i turned the prop and now its out of gear so obviously i dont assemble whilst out of gear(or do i) so can you tell me how to put her back into gear please

Is this an alpha? Simply turn the shift shaft all the way clockwise while turning the prop counterclockwise till it locks in place. This shaft pictured here:

Same thing... No biggie. Spin the prop to verify.

Also, these drives like to stay in forward when positioned like the drive is tilted up and out.

Ayuh,...

I wrap a bungee strap from the cavplate, around the propshaft, back to the cavplate,...
It'll hold tension on the gears,+ Keep it in Forward...
