omc800serieswont go up-justclicks

HELP!!! I made arrangements to get a new top for my boat and the guy who will be doing it wants me to bring the boat to him a.s.a.p. The problem, after shovelling a foot of snow off and having to boost the battery etc., is that when I try the tilt switch to bring the drive up so I can haul on trailer all I get is a clicking at the outdrive. What can I do to solve/fix so I can get my boat to the top guy and so it will work reliably this spring??
There are three bolts that hold on the tilt quadrant (#67) to the upper gearcase on the port side.Undo them ,lift up the leg, pull out the quadrant and repostion it under the raised leg and put the bolts back in.This will get you to the top guy.As far as trouble shooting it check for power at the plug where it connects to the tilt motor while someone hits the switch. Check the clutch pack and see if the oil is milky(if it is it maybe frozen ), thaw and try it then if it works reseal it.One more thing to try is lightly taping the motor while using the switch .

You can also loosen the tilt clutch screw, pull the out drive up and tighten it again.

Heatzoneexpress
I agree with richard but do now know what butch is talking about but also another way.
There is a small gear on the tilt clutch and turns the Quadrant gear #67. This small gear is held on by a snap ring. You can take snap ring off and remove small gear raise outdrive and put gear back on then reinstall snap ring. You may need a second person to do this as after raise outdrive will have to hold it up while putting gear back on. This is quite easy if you have snap ring pliers. If do not have a second person to hold outdrive up can use sone type of block while you put gear back on.

While you have quadrant gear off or small gear off and are raising the outdrive note how hard it moves up and down. If you have a second person while have one of the gears off have someone try tilt switch and see if motor turns. This will give you a good idea where to start your repair work. Could be water in tilt clutch and froze up as Richard said. Clutch has a oil drain and fill level plug and takes engine oil. Can also be bad tilt motor or solenoid. If you here it click Solenoid probably ok. One other thing I have seen is pivots on the outdrive very stiff where motor could not move or would move just a little. This happened on my motor even though I lubbed once a year. I removed the pivot caps and pulled outdrive away from pivot took off bearing sleve cleaned and lubbed all way around and now moves almost too fast. 3 seconds and it is alll the way up. All the way down in one quick tap.
Forgot to get small gear off have to pull tilt clutch back some so I think Richard has best idea.

Good luck and let up know what you find.
