OMC V4 ignition short?

1995 Boston Whaler 15 ft Rage: 115 V4 OMC Turbojet.
The engine start easily and runs fine (5500+ rpm, full power, full speed) for about 30-60 minutes. Then the ignition shuts down with no spark to any of the cylinders and the engine will not restart. After I get it home (after a friendly tow), it will start and run on the hose forever.

The engine does not seem to be overheating (170F when it shuts down), which is a common problem with the turbojet, and this model does not have the S.L.O.W. system when it overheats. The engine has a new powerpack and ignition wires (which did make it run slightly longer). I am guessing a short occurs somewhere in the ignition system when the engine gets warm, perhaps the stator assembly?

Has anyone had a similar problem and have any suggestions before I pull the flywheel (which is some work) and check the stator and timing base for damage?

Any info would be great! ... Dave

Unless you have two temperature gauges, you are only reading one bank of cylinders, so make sure that your temperature switches are working on the horn circuit.

Before anything else, try disconnecting the black and yellow kill wire at the powerpack; you will have to have a plan to shut the engine down if it keeps running, but that should eliminate the ignition switch from consideration.

You do have a 5800 rev limit on your engine.

Be sure to keep the sand filter clean on your water intake.
