Do you have a manual? It should have all the info you need. I think I might have that drives manual, will check for you later if your interested.

I see your from Boston. If you need help or parts, try Monahans marine in Weymouth on 53. They get all kinds of OMC parts, and offer good service. Stay away from West and Boat US, too expensive. For good drawings of your drive and parts listings try;

www.dougrussell.com

they're in Worcester right off exit 11 (I think) from the pike on 20. This is a good forum to learn on. -Jeff

Re: OMC u/joint-gimball help

I don't know how important that seal is. I screwed mine up a couple years ago & just left it. Haven't had any problems because of it. I talked to a dealer & they said they never change 'em, too much of a hassle I guess. Change the gimbal bearing while u have it out & make sure u line up the grease hole on the bearing with the tube or it will run dry & won't last. The housing should be fine. By the way, u lucked out when the bearing came out with the u joint shaft. They can be a real bear to remove at times.

Millis, I use my boat (when it's running hahahaha) at Cocituate, and the Charles from Watertown, to under the Zakim and back. I have yet to take it into the harbor.

If you go to watertown square from exit 17 off the pike turn right onto nonantum road. Go a little ways (less than 2 miles I guess) til you see the MDC rink. Turn left into the 2nd lot after the rink. The ramp is at the end on the left side. It's a nice quiet ride, max speed 6 mph due to kayaks etc, but nice. You go by the hatshell and all that. The Zakim is a sight even during the day, but night time is something. You can tie up just short of the Museum of Science and go eat at the cheesecake factory, or go through the locks into the harbor ad seee all the yachts up close. Good meals in Quincy etc. 'Course I'd be doing some of this if my boat was right!

Re: OMC u/joint-gimball help

Not sure yet, it skips at all rpm but idle. Stays in gear but the O/D jumps. Going to try to get it out tomorrow with the engine cover off and see if I can find anything. I pulled the drive, looked over the upper unit and found nothing. Put it all back together and am hopeful it's not the lower. If so, I'll sell it and maybe get the 19' Regal I've been eyeballing for a year now. Alot of arguments on here about Merc vs OMC but seems they both have their share of issues.
