Hello all!
First time poster here...
Recently acquired a 1994 Four Winns Fling with a 115 HP TurboJet...
It was passed down to me as a family deal and apparently has 100 hours on the hour meter!
All looks well with the vessel and can rip up and down the river with ease...
Last night I started looking into doing some tune up stuff and thought I would pull the impeller housing and check out the impeller and wear ring.
To my surprise, the impeller and wear ring are in great shape and look to be a-ok...
This is when I noticed the impeller seemed to be "loose" and I can easily slide the impeller in and out of the housing...
I started to look at exploded views of the jet setup and noticed two sealed type bearings that reside in the impeller housing.
I began to look closer into the housing and it appears the outer most bearing is gone!
On the linked exploded view, the bearing in question is item #27.
I believe the reason for failure is the fact that the pump cone is missing!
So my questions are these --
1.) How easy is it to press those bearings out? I plan on doing both bearings (#27 and #25) I have a home harbor freight press and was wondering if the home diy'er can do this. (See attached pic 1704 and 1705...The first one is with the impeller shaft bolt all the way in, and 1705 is with the impeller shaft all the way out. You can see the bearing race in there exploded...Atleast I think that is what it is since I can not find a bearing up front there...)
2.) It appears the pump cone is EOL. Are there any kind of online scrap yards that might have this piece?
3.) This is an off topic question, it appears the oil injection system has been removed. I can not find the oil tank or primer bulb anywhere! Is this a common mod for these engines?
4.) Another off topic question, it appears the hull has some chipping and also appears someone has done what appears to be an epoxy fix over previous knicks and chips...Is this a common type of repair for that issue (chipping)?
5.) I attempted to back flush the system with fresh water and a hose with the impeller housing off. I just read that there is a common issue with the muffler/exhaust seals leaking if too much water pressure is injected into the system...I didn't have the hose pressed against the housing but rather was spraying directly into the system with the engine OFF. I did finally start to see water expel from an upper relief hole. What are the chances I popped those seals?
6.) Lastly, are there any torque specs for these engines/jets somewhere out there?
Any advice helps and thanks to this forum existing, lots of useful info here!
