OMC triple guard or Copper Formula anti sieze?

I have a Baystar Hydraulic steering system and the support brackets always seem to get seized to the support rod and need some 'strong encouragement' to undo. I have not always used the proper grease, so it is my bad. I am cleaning the unit up and putting it on a different outboard.

Is there any reason I shouldn't use Anti Seize Copper formula compound instead of grease? I did pick up some OMC triple guard for the support arm where it passes through the steering tube. Is copper anti seize a bad thing compared to triple-guard in a salt water environment?

Thanks, Scott

Copper is a very bad thing in a saltwater environment, or any other situation that involves dissimilar metals.

Any type of grease or anti-seize that contains either copper or graphite can cause galvanic corrosion of the aluminum parts.

Triple-Guard grease works the best and I've removed water pump bolts and steering parts after 5 years without a problem. Use it generously while assembling each of the steering components.

Cleaning and re-lubing the support rod is considered regular preventative maintenance. Same goes for mechanical steering. It is just something that you have to do, or live with the consequences.
