OMC to Mercruiser Engine Swap

I currently have a 1986 2.5l OMC that is getting water in the oil. I am wondering what engines would be an easy change out for this incase I find a crack in the block. 3.0l OMC, Merc 120, Merc 140? Any ideas

Welcome aboard.....


Well there's really no problem using a "Mercruiser engine in your OMC setup.

You just remove everything Mercruiser specific and replace it with all the OMC "Stuff" and bolt it in.

The 2.5L engine is a Merc 120 I believe. You just have to ensure that it fits.

If it's an 86, is it a Stringer or an early Cobra?

Not a lot of help but I just did a swap from omc to mercrusier... Mine was a 165 hp straight six but they interchanged exactly... well almost the merc head had slightly different bolt holes on the side... only issue was my Motor lift point... I just used the merc one..
