laddiesservice
Yes I agree with you on that but I am trying to save this motor enough to use it for a backup, it has been submerged in the bilge and I took it apart and cleaned and dried it. I worked 5 or 6 trips but the died. the spot the brushes ride on have been burnt a little but i think it will clean up with some 600 grit paper. It never hurts to have a backup until you can get a new one "LOL"

thanks

Scuba,
Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Haven't been surfing much lately.

I soldered the wire directly to the wire going to the windings, bypassing the contacts. That may have been overkill and soldering to the contactd is probably OK.

Good luck,
mike

Thanks Rainmaker,

Mine must be a bit different, my contact points are on the end plate and goes to ground but I get the idea ;)

I will try to get it put back together in the morning, while I am replacing a manifold :)

Scuba,
That makes sense with a heat-activated switch (switching the ground side). Its been about 10 years since I did this mod, so memory is fuzzy.
mike

Re: OMC Tilt Motor Rainmaker

Hmmmm, now that would not have anything to do with age would it??? :D

I just put the motor back together and tested it and it runs, then I poped it open about 1/8 inch and put a very thin film of blue RTV on it and have it resting now. I did this with the RTV last time and it helps hold it togeter so I can stand on my head and get it back in there.
Thanks again :p
