Re: omc tilt motor installation question

I just stick a screwdriver in the hole and turn the shaft vertical. Then insert the coupling. Then I turn the motor shaft to line up with where the other bar is lined up.

It's frustrating where it is, but if they are lined up should all slide together.

Resist any temptation to energize the motor to turn it a bit....

Does your hammer blow coupling have both keys in each half of the coupler holes? Both the tilt worm shaft and the motor shaft have notches in them. Both of these have to insert into the HB coupling but over each of the HB coupling keys. If the notches on both shafts are not in alignment with their respective keys, they will not engage.

Re: omc tilt motor installation question

Thanks for the reply. I think you hit it right on. I only have one tab to fit in the slot. i must have dropped or lost the other tab. it makes a little more sense now on how they can engage. Does the loose end of the spring of the coupler spring have to be in a certain position when installing?

thanks for helping Howard and you other guys.

Not sure what you are referring to. Both halves have the bent over tip of the spring visible. Both halves are identical except for them being mirror opposites of one another. The coupler can be inserted from either direction.

Re: omc tilt motor installation question

You are truely the wise one. after seeing what the coupler looked like, i searched and found the other half under the engine. putting the two halves together made everything much easier. the coupler and motor went in easily and all is well. thank you very much for your excellent help.
