OMC Tilt - Boatist do you know?

OMC 800 outdrive. The tilt motor is working but it is making some hidious noises from within. I've taken all the bushing and gears outof the housing and removed the top worm gear. The rod that the worm gear slides onto seams to be broke way up in. I can take out about 5 inches but have no idea on how to get to the other end of the rod. I think it goes right up into the 12 volt motor but I don't see how to get the 12 volt motor out. Any idea's?

If yours is like mine, the motor mounts to the transom from the inside on the port side near the bottom. Mine has 2 bolts that hold it on. Remove them and the motor should come out. Don't forget to unhook the wires going to it. Hope that helps.
