So I am new to boating and I am getting very frustrated with my stringer outdrive, so here comes my spill about what's happened and hopefully someone can help me. So I put my boat in the water for the first time and I back it off the trailer and put it in forward and it goes for a few seconds and then the motor died and wouldn't start again and sounded like it was locked up, so I get it home and find out the upper gearcase has seized up, so I replace the upper gearcase with another one I got from a marine repair shop here in salt lake, and I put everything back together just as it was and I start up the boat and try and put it in gear and the shift lever and control box all seemed to be operating normally but it wont engage in forward or reverse so I don't know what could be happening I even took the cables out of the control box and shifted it manually and still nothing, sorry its so long just wanted to give the whole story...

your top end of the outdrive has nothing to do with the shifting. unfortunatly it sounds to me like its the lower end of the outdrive. mine had the same issue. does your prop click when you spin it by hand while the shifter is in the neutral position?

Ok, well I figured it out...my rebuilt upper gearcase had stripped out water pump shaft, how do you overlook that?so I took the drive back off and took it back to the shop I bought it from and he fixed it right away but very inconvenient for me.so I installed and everything seems to be working as it should :)
