I've got a 1977 OMC Stringer Intermediate housing that I can't find the oil drain for. I've got the Seloc manual and there isn't a drain plug where the photos show in the manual. I took a couple of pictures and posted them on the web. I'd appreciate it if someone could point out where it is.

I read in the manual that earlier models used a grease fitting instead of oil but I don't see a grease fitting either.

http://www.sonic.net/~jamesm1/pics/Intermediate_3.jpg Number 3 in the picture shows where the drain plug is located on other housings. I'm not sure what the number 2 plug is.

http://www.sonic.net/~jamesm1/pics/Intermediate_2.jpg This picture shows the other side.

http://www.sonic.net/~jamesm1/pics/Intermediate_1.jpg This picture shows the fill plug location.

Thanks for the help.

Re: OMC Stringer Intermediate drain location ???

I had the same sterndrive for over 10 years. According to the OMC manual, there was no drain plug. I just checked it every year. It was always full, and I never changed it. It was a reliable drive, reliable in the sense that the lower unit gears would need to be changed every couple of years. I wouldn't put much money into it.

Iv'e never noticed a drain plug on earlier models so I just check it to make sure it's fuul and not milky and all is well. The only time the oil gets changed is when you replace the ball gear.
