I have a 1984 21' Larson with a 5.7L Chev engine and an OMC stringer 800 outdrive.
I have been trying to diagnose a water leak and have made the following observations:
1. When sitting in the water without the engine running there is no water leaking into the bilge.
2. With the engine running and the boat fully immersed in the water, water is leaking somewhere in the intermediate housing next to where the tilt motor is mounted.
3. When th engine is turned off, water continues to leak in thru the intermediate housing with the same intensity. A steady stream downward at about a 45 degree angle.
4. The boat is kept on a lift. If I have the boat out of the water, except for enough of the lower drive for water intake, I do not get the leak in the intermediate housing.
5. Due to access, I can't tell, or see, exactly where the water is coming from but like I said it is next to the tilt motor more toward the lower center of the intermediate housing.
Does anyone have an idea what the source of the water leak is?
Due to age, if I have to pull the lower unit and then the intermediate housing, I will replace the impeller and the transom boot while apart. My tilt and trim does not work either, so I will diagnose and repair that at the same time, as well.
