omc stringer 800 tilt inop please help

tilt goes down fine.but when i try to raise it it gets stuck after 5 inches. if i give it a push while holding the button it will raise. i replaced the tilt motor and selonoids. cleaned the clutch plates and disc,s. fresh fluid checked the hammer blow and worm gear. im a master auto tech and this has me stumped any help would be great. thanks

1. Check the pivot points where the upper gear case meets the intermediate unit. There are 2 bolts on each side, under the rubber bumpers. There should be a grease zirk in this same location. Try lubing these with marine grease. As a test, you could try loosing up the two bolts.<br /><br />2. I have found that if my batt. does not have a good charge, it will be a slow raiser.<br /><br />3. Check all the connections. The tilt drive motor is a amp hog... You could run a bypass from the + side of the batt to one of the connectors. The system is case grounded, so one wire raises and the other lowers...<br /><br />4. Make sure the clutch case cover has a thick gasket. If not it could be binding against the clutch plates.

thanks for the quick reply. its deffinatly not the pivot, but i dont recall a thick gasket on the clutch cover. i remember a big "o" ring but not a gasket...sounds like that could be my prob. gonna check it out and i'll ley you know..thanks again<br /><br />steven

I agree... check the pivot points. Maybe time to maintenance them. They will bind from old grease drying up.

The tilt housing kits definetly include a gasket.
