Omc sterndrive clunks when put in reverse only when cold.

my omc sterndrive sounds like its shifting in and out of gear when put in reverse only when its cold, any idea what the problem is.

Hey Saxton:

Welcome aboard. The folks around here are going to need more information from you - year, model, etc. There are a bunch of different variations in systems and without that detail it's hard to even make a guess.

My boat is a 1988 grew with a 4.3 ,and it only clunks or sounds like it is jumping in and out of gear when it is cold.

My Cobra drive will occasionally skip the dogs a few times like clunk clunk clunk comming off the trailer in reverse, it's does it once or twice a season and I do think it's because either the drive is cold or the cable may be just slightly off key on adjustment, I remember quickly pulling it to neutral and re-engaging reverse and the second time it went perfect, it helps to make quick sharp movements, a slow pussyfoot shift will cause clunking sometimes with mine.
