OMC Stern Drive Water Plug - Yes I removed it

So, not thinking, I removed the drain plug on the side of the stern drive. Based on what I have found, I shouldn't have done that.

The good news is I managed to not let the nut fall into the case.

The bad news is that the little plastic or magnesium ring that fits into the casting to reduce the whole size is broken, so I can't seal it up, even with the same plug.

Anyone have any idea where I can get another assembly for this? Probably salvage one off of a discarded housing, but I don't know where to even begin looking and since it isn't even in the part list, I don't have a part number to work with.

Any othe ideas on whether I can leave it open or perhaps plug it up in some other way?

Any help is appreciated for this newbie? Maybe I should have gotten a horse indstead :)

How about some JB Weld? This is the mystery hole on the side of the Cobra drive right? From what I've read it doesn't really serve any purpose after manufacturing.

The OP hasn't been back in the 2 1/2 months since he posted his question. One of those one post wonders.
