Hey guys
I have a 1998 maxxum sc2300 that I bought 2 years ago. The original engine was a 5.7 mercruiser and was switched by the original owner to a 5.0 (Ford) omc 1992ish model. It had an edelbrock auto carb that was removed for a holley marine 4 barrel carb. I purchased this thru National Carb at there suggestion. The problem that I have is whenever I give it gas above 1400 rpm it dies. If I move throttle back and forth featherin it it will run to about 2000 rpms. this happens in forward and reverse. I checked the shift interuppter shift to see if that was causing it and no. Replaced gas cause I was told it could be old gas. The engine runs perfect on muffs and in water out of gear but under way 1400 rpm dies.. Please help
also checked the timing and it was dead on.

Re: Omc stalls

Little confused here but I think you are saying that this problem just started with the new carb. When on the lake will it run if you punch it hard? In other words is the problem only on a gradual transition from idle? I've been calibrating a new Edelbrock. It was acting very similar coming off idle. Original setup was just way too lean for my engine. I've gone several steps richer and it's running much better.

Re: Omc stalls

Ok heres a little more info A friend and myself went out on Lake tahoe. We had taken it out before (last year) with edelbrock and the engine ran great We had outdrive problems the shift was not set up correct and we lost gears but that is another story we ran the engine all the way up to 3500 rpm and no stumbles.
Took the boat to a repair shop to put it on dyno they wouldn't touch it because of automotive carb. Went on ebay and purchased a holley from national carb. Installed following their directions and everything runs great on the muffs. Went to Tahoe got out of the no wake zone and throttle up when doing so engine dies. I took off the engine cover and removed throttle cable my friend drove while i operated throttle. unless feathering throttle the engine would die immediately just off of 1400 rpm.

Re: Omc stalls

My advise would be to call Holley's tech line @ 1-866-GOHOLLEY and describe the problem to them. I'm still think'in it's lean butt I am by no means an expert. If their tech support is as good as Edelbrocks you'll be fine.
Good luck!
