Hello all, first post, though long time reader.

My problem with my 1984 2.6 L (6 cyl) Ducted Seadrive OB is that when it is cold, I turn the key to start, the flywheel moves a little (starter engages) then starter cuts out, turn key to off, then I try again, fly wheel turns a little farther, then on 3rd/4th try fires right up and runs fine.

I can run around all day, but if I anchor for a while and the engine cools off, same issue, but it usually only takes 2 attemps to get it started.

Prior to putting in marina, I cleaned all connections at starter, solenoid, and battery

From reading posts, I suspect
- bad battery cables to starter, but felt no "crunchiness" in the cables but I did notice that they are SAE wire (#4), not tinned marine wire, (What is an acceptable resistance reading on battery cable?)

- or bad battery but since it can crank the engine after several tries I though the battery could not be the issue.

- or gummed up rings/cylinders that need some loosing up that come from the intial starting attemps.

Thanks for reading and any and all help/input/advice is greatly appreciated
