OMC sail drive

I am looking to rebuild a OMC Sail Drive motor and outdrive on my 1976 San Juan. Has anyone evr had any luck finding parts for these motors? I heard they were hard to come by. Any response will be appreciated. martini23@msn.com

they are good dependible engines.. nothing I know of is bad about them.

They were a ?? hp omc outboard engine detuned to about 15/18hp. You might find out which engine was used and might find one to replace the whole top end. A lot of homework will help decide whether to start this project or not. If you cannot get all of the parts, you do not need any.<br />Don't know anything about the drive.<br />When they were run they were ok, but when not, the carbs clogged up as any 2 cycle will do. If you have a chance, fix it so you can run the fuel out each and every time.<br />Good Luck!

Hi Paff813.<br /><br />The motor is a slightly detuned 20 HP evin/jonsson from 1980 and up to 1988. Most parts are standard, besides from exhaust. Other parts will fit. What do you need ? Post in outboard - or do a search on saildrives on outboard forum.

The one thing thats not available is the exhaust manifold deal. Thr motors were basically a 35 hp but there are differences in the years.<br /><br />Good luck!

Check with the Ericson Sailboat website I don't remember thw url off the top of my head but there is a link to a number for parts in the maintenace discussion forum.
