Hi, I'm new to the forum... Hope i will be able to help others out also...

I have a single lever side mount control for my 99 johnson 25HP (2cyl)

when i bought the motor it came with the old school 2 lever shifter...

i picked up the single lever newer style for it...

the old school shifter had the warning horn wired to it...
the new shifter doesn't (not that i can see at least)

Do i need the warning Horn?

Is there a way to test if it has a warning horn/if it's working properly? without opening up the control...

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the 3 pin tach plug...

this is all i'm able to find...

I know it's a ground, 12V and tach signal but which pin is what?...

starting from left to right?

any help would be appreciated

Thanks,

Left to right like on your pic. Black=Ground, Grey=Signal, Purple=12volt. Hope this helps, I went out and verified it on my controls.

If you have the control installed, just ground out the wire going to the overheat sensor at the head of the motor and the horn should sound when the key is on.

The control is installed...

Are the over heat sensors the 2 tan wires?

so just stick a wire to the block and turn the key on... if it buzzes i'm good, if not then the control has no buzzer, or the buzzer is not working properly...

The overheat sensor is in the pic you posted, looks like it has a tan/red stripe wire coming out of it. The sensor is in the head, just above the tell/tale hose about halfway between the fitting and the clamp on the head cover. If you ground out the wire going to it the horn, if you have one, should sound when the key is on.

Don't know if you have the plug for the tach but hwen I did mine I just put alittle solder on the end of the wires to make pins and it worked really well, I had one of those controls also and it does have an intermnal buzzer but it is always good to check things to make sure they work correctly, that sin't somehting you want to malfunction.

Re: OMC Remote Shifter Questions - Electrical tach and warning horn

I have the same controls without the power tilt for my 91 Johnson 25 HP 2 stroke and have been wondering about the horn myself. Unfortunately I am a little lost about what to do to check if the horn is working. I am just confused about what wire to ground to the block that is coming out of the control box? I only have 3 cables coming out of my control box to the motor. My shift cable, throttle cable, and a thick black wire (must be for the ignition)? By the way please don't think I am trying to hijack your thread I just am curious about this myself but am a little confused about what the other posters said to do.

in this picture...

the 2 tan wires that go into the black rubber...

disconnect one of them (remove the retainer clip) and put a wire from there to the block
have your key turned on and it should beep if it has a buzzer/horn...

my shifter does have the buzzer/horn and I checked and it is functioning (buzzer is inside the shifter)
