I had the same problem...A new shift cable fixed it.

Gary,
how much did the new cable cost with labor? Or did you do it yourself?

Re: OMC OUTDRIVE COBRA PROBLEM

You can buy an OMC shift cable for around $185 here:

http://www.fasteddiesmarineparts.com

The Sierra brand can be bought for less than $100. If it were my boat, I would buy the OMC one.

Cost me $350 10 years ago..sure it is more now. I always did my own after that.

I bought the Sierra,i think it was about 100 bucks.I got it put on for 60..I thought that was fair.
I'll see how long the Sierra lasts.

More than fair! $60 is pretty cheap for an install. Haven't heard anyone who would do it that cheap and make any money? Was it a marine mechanic?

My guess it will cost a lot more than that at most shops.
