So I took the 1975 Cobalt 190hp out for the last run of the year. I just rebuilt the engine and got it running perfect. The boat ran fine today. Than I decided to to test endurance. I ran her up to 3500-3800 rpm between 35-39 mph. Did good for about 45 minutes. Than I heard a weired squeal sound and shut her off. Fond the belt was loose so tightened her up an reved it in neutral, it was fine. Than stared in gear and heard it again. So I started back to the ramp. Shut it off to check the belt again and would not start up. Felt like the bat was dead but was showing 12 volt. So here is the weired part
Start cranking it won't start felt like in gear and steering wheel moved
Turn the steering wheel motor would turn.
Tried hand turning the motor would not move.
Got towed in
When I got back home I disconnected the stern drive from the interimentent housing. Cranked over the motor and it was fine. So its in the stern drive some where. Gear fluid was dark and smelt bad(burnt) I. The lower. Upper was tan-brownish color. Replaced fluid 2 weeks ago with type c. I don't know where to start. Surfing the web came out with no info. Any help would be appreciated. I have all winter to fix this problem.
