Purchased this in a garage sale. It is a 100cc two stroke that is stamped OMC but it is tagged as Tokyo Hatsudoki. The Japanese tag says It was built in April 1941 the mag plate matches an early Evinrude. Tokyo Hatsudoki was founded in April 1939 and this TFA-50 engine is April of 1941 It seems like two years after the company started they were re-badging American outboards?? More info/questions in my next post.

My engine is a TFA-50 1941 two years after Tokyo Hatsudoki started. Followed by the second model in 1945 the TFB-50 then the TFL engines in 1950 and so on. But I have much bigger questions about my engine being stamped OMC for I believe outboard marine corporation.

Forward from 1944 and all the generators for anti-aircraft light plants and radio generators plus battery chargers/APU’s that use this exact two stroke 100cc engine have no OMC markings or stamps of any kind. Later on Mikuni shoko and shoda aircraft company would copy Tokyo Hatsudoki and make these two stroke 100cc engines to be used by solders in the war.

The point I’m trying to get to is that my engine is early Tokyo Hatsudoki stamped OMC and Tokyo Hatsudoki built all the generators and gen plants for Japan to use against Americans during WW2.. I’m wondering if they went to war with us using re-badged outboards they got from us? How did they get them?

If Honda started with Tokyo Hatsudoki in 1946 and Tokyo Hatsudoki started by re-badging OMC engines in 1941 well… Just makes a person wonder if this engine actually started out as American OMC…

I will lastly add that is seems the engine and gearbox were fished from the ocean as it’s kind of funny an aluminum piston rusted. I took my time and made the little TFA-50 run like a top. getting that piston out of the bore was almost as big of a nightmare as freeing off the stuck rings.

If anyone knows the backstory on this engine please do speak up! Edit: My TFA-50 engine also has a flywheel that is a direct match to 1930’s OMC/EvinRude couldn’t edit the first post.
