1985 twin 2.6 liter omc's.25' hydrasport. will not idle @ the coast.History;engines sat idle in the driveway 10 years before I bought them .mechanic work before launch to replace fuel/oil pumps, carburetor rebuilds, fuel replacement, gas line replacement, wiring,so on.Engines will run fine in fresh water ,at my office,on the lake.my elevation 500'.tried gas there here and no difference in lack of performance at the coast.Been through 2 mechanics, general repair carburators.trouble begins at the moment I start the engines and throughuot the trip regardless of length of time run at higher RPM's.Engines will not idle especially during forward reverse shift changes.

I almost hesitate to offer the obvious - Since you have gone through two mechanics - did either guarantee their work? Go back to them and demand that they make it right - I hope you paid with Master Card or VISA so if your mechanic gives you a hard time call your credit card company and dispute the payment.

If you want to have another mechanic have a shot at it as the ones you went to could not fix it, I would tell the new guy exactly what was done and get a clear understanding of his warranty.

If you want to give it a go yourself you will have to provide more info on what the motors are/are not doing. You did not give the folks here much info to go on (an elevation of 500' is not going to be a factor). For example are both motors acting the same. Did you drain and clean the tank? (that is where I would start - in fact I would probably disconnect the fuel tank and drop in a six gallon tank with fresh fuel as a starting point). If you have bad fuel you may have to do the carbs again. Also need to get a manual for your motors.

Are you saying the engines run fine after being in the salt water and then put back into fresh? Or are you saying they ran well while in fresh, then not in the salt.
Fred

Re: omc,motors,problems

I am going to remove the fuel tank and either remake it or have it cleaned and resealed.after this adventure I will seek out an OMC pro to adjust motors to OMC standards taking in tow all repair records to date.the engines while at the coast alternately die at idle (moving or sitting still) especially during shift changes, when I purge them with fresh water (hose) either at the coast or my office they will idle just fine. And they will run fine in the lake in my area .
