OMC / Mercruiser Transom Cutout

I am wondering if the transom cutout is the same for a 1989 OMC 5.7 260 Cobra, vs a 1994 Mercruiser 5.7 with an Alpha drive?

If you're gonna put a 94 Alpha in the Cobra hole, you will probably have to drill 2 more holes for the extra 2 studs(8 total) that the Gen II has.

You also might have to slightly re-drill mount points for the side engine mounts.... (fill the old holes with an epoxy/glass powder slurry.....)

I now have the transom assembly and engine installed, and aligned. The the trim cylinder pump is in place, as well as the shifter and its cables. It all fit quite nicely.

Next is the electrical. Does anyone happen to know if the main wiring harnesses are the same for both OMC and Merc?

Yes, they are the same.
A hint for future posts.
Don't make a single post for your whole project. Start a new thread for each separate subject. This is a perfect example. How many electrical people passed this thread up because the title was OMC / Mercruiser Transom Cutout.
A title in a new thread like "Is Merc and OMC harness connectors interchangeable" would probably get quicker results

You may have to add some extra wires for the oil/temp/drive-lube alarm (if installed) I think my 97 Merc harness had a couple additional wires over the 87 OMC
