I have a "86" Johnson 115 VRO. While under a load motor boggs down and takes off, boggs down, takes off and boggs down again. I check the fuel system took the carbs. off cleaned them out blew them out fuel system good. Any ideas what I should check next? I would appreciate it if someone could come back with an answer.

gafgrip,

It sounds as if you are periodically losing a cylinder. It could be spark.

If you have access to an inductive type timing light-try the following.

1. Clip the inductive timing light end on one cylinder then go and run the unit. Watch the light. Keep trying all four cylinders until you find one that the timing strobe starts to "break up".
This will check: powerpacks, coils and plug wires.

2. If each cylinder seems to have good spark, you're most likely back to fuel.

djohns19 Thanks for the advice. I was going to go to coils next. How can I check the powerpack and does that have two powerpacks?
