OMC Lower Units....Which Are Better?

Here's the question. Are split type OMC Lower Units stronger and better all around or are one piece bullet styles better? Just wondering.

Yes, they are not. But only because of the horizontial torque transfer ratio. Of course that depends on the aspect percentage too. And as everybody knows, we have to account for the thrust multiplier. Factor that in with the reverse triangulation and we have the given diversion square root. From there you can see the obvious relation.<br /><br />BTW -- what are we talking about? Which lower units? Which motors?

Since you are asking about OMC outboards, back then the internal gears, bearings, etc. were identical between the split-line and the traditional gearcases of the same years. You could interchange gearcases with no problem. The split-line version had replacable, and optional, black plastic water pickup screens. Traditional gearcases had cast in holes with an internal plastic screen.
