omc lower unit

pulled lower unit to change u joint bellows etc. now i can't get the drive back on. i 've pushed pulled, horsed it around etc. drive shaft splines were greased & are lined up. i can't get it to go that last 3" or so to put the nuts on the studs. 1987 3.0 cobra. help!!!

sea wolf....the obvious would be the alignment but I have heard that if you get too much greas on those O rings that the shaft can "Lock-up" on the way in just within the last few inches, you may want to wipe them off if you can see grease on them.

bob, no grease on o- rings, just the splines.
