OMC King Cobra compatibility

I have recently acquired a 1991Thompson Santa Cruz 260 which I believe is equiped with OMC outdrive. I have the oportunity to buy A King Cobra drive at a reasonable price the engine is a 5.7 L OMC is it possible to use this drive on this engine and what does it take to install this unit on my boat.
Thanking anybody and everybody that can give me some idea.

Impossible to say without seeing the drive you are looking at.
OMC, in their infinate wisdom called 3 completely different outdrives "King Cobra", and the are not interchangable.

No the King Cobra will not bolt up to your 5.7 . Plus why would you buy something you can't find parts for it and if you do they are rare and big $$$. Try to find just a Cobra for your 5.7 you can still get parts for them. DonS i'm not sure by posting this link if its ok ?? I'm sorry if it isn't. . hejkowa - can you visibly see a difference in the shape of the drive unit? If you can, they're not interchangeable.

I have followed your advice and have purchased a omc cobra drive and a good running used engine. Can someone give me advice on how to align the engine with the drive and what can I use as a tool . Would a tube of the right diameter do.

Sure would, if you can find a tube with these dimensions. Otherwise, you will need an alignment bar.

The alignment tool you can find on Ebay for about 40 to 50 bucks...
You will really need one or the engine coupler won't last very long.
