Hello. I am new to this forum and all the reading I have down is been an abundance of help! Here's my issue, I just bought a new boat to replace my old one I sold. It is a beautiful four Winns 200 Horizon, 1992, with a king cobra. I knew all of the horror stories but for the price I paid I couldn't say no. It had a outdrive oil leak so I had a local dealer fix it for me with a couple new rings and such. Here is where it gets messy. The dealer told me that the boat wasn't idling because of a bad ignition system. (I did know it wasn't idling when I bought it. Would run at 2000 or so but would die at idle) so I asked the dealer to just fix outdrive and I'd look into the idle, carburetor was my hunch. I restored a John Deere 1956 60 when I was in 7th grade, I'm rather mechanically Savy I like to think. So I rebuilt the four barrel Holley in my garage and hooked up water and it ran great!!! I had it run for about one hour and half just to be sure all was well. Idled great and started fine. Then the dealer was done with the outdrive so I brought it back to them and now before I went out I figured I'd make sure all was well with motor still. So I hooked up muffs and hooked up water and tried to start it In my driveway. Turned a little harder so I sprayed a little starter spray down carb and it fired. Then it ran for a min or two and then suddenly stopped. I drove to town made sure I had 5 gallons or so in tank. Went back and it was even harder to crank. Hooked up battery to a truck and helped the cause but now my starter started smoking so I'm not gonna try it again. Long story short it ran great without the outdrive and now without spray I can't even keep it running! Ik it's not the most ideal part motor or outdrive but I'd love to keep it! All help is appreciated!

pull your plug and crank it. see if water comes out the cylinder

what is your timing set to?

and put the can of starting spray (ether) somewhere where you cant find it.

I think you mean pull ALL the spark plugs! :thumb:

Also, if you even think there's a problem with the ignition, start pricing replacement distributors (Delco EST, Mallory, MSD etc) Don't waste any time trying to get an OMC Spitfire ignition working correctly.
