Is there any years that I should stay away from in re-powering with a 200-250 Johnson etc. Would like to use Johnson so my controls will still work.

Going from a really great but well used 235 looper to something equivalent.

Any help would be appreciated - Trying to get this done for Floridas Mini-Lobster season.

Thanks - RF

Re: OMC/Johnson/Evenrude Question

A lot of guys will stay away from used FICHT engines. Do a search & read away.

Re: OMC/Johnson/Evenrude Question

RF, it would help if you posted your model number so we know exactly what you have now. They never made a 235 looper. Also there was a wiring harness change in 1996. While there are adaptors for 1995 boat harnesses youll be better off if you change the harness if yours is 95 or earlier.

Re: OMC/Johnson/Evenrude Question

Once you go to a looper youll be very pleasantly surprised. VERY!

The 78-79 235's were 2.5 liter motors. The 1980 & newer 235's were 2.6's and were only 175 hp at the prop. Even if you went to a 60 degree 175 looper youd be shocked. Going from a 235 cf to a 250 looper -- hang on to your hat!!
