Hi.
I have a 2001 Stratos 19 extreme SS with a 2001 200hp Johnson. I bought the boat 2 years ago. My problem is that I have a purple wire at the battery that is not connected to the pos terminal and I do not know what it is for. I thought is might be the ignition wire to the key switch or the System Check. The key switch works and the System Check Gauge goes through it sequence fine without it connected. I have not hear any alarms in the pass 2 years I have had the boat. Everything works on the boat with it disconnected. I did read one thread about a possible VRO heater that could have been used in the pass and are no longer needed or used on the newer models. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

Re: OMC Ignition, purple wire question?

Boating color codes for wiring do not have a purple wire at a battery. Somebody put that in and did not follow normal marine practices.

A purple wire is most often used for the switched 12 volts positive at your keyswitch to power gauges and if needed it powers the engine ignition, computer, or charging system depending on the type of motor you have.

By the way, there is no such thing as a VRO heater. Where did you ever hear that? That's a new one !!!!!
