OMC Gasket Sealing Compound, substitute

so I am ready to install my power head onto the midsection and the book is calling out for OMC gasket sealing compound. will the stuff called Indian Head gasket sealant, work??

or do I need something that will work at higher than 350 degree temps?

Id like to go to the automotive store to get the sealant I need. The marine store is over an hour away!

I don't know of a substitute, maybe someone else does, but that particular Permatex product is not the same. It states that it sets hard, which the OMC compound does not, it stays tacky.

Edit to add: I looked at the Permatex gasket sealants and it appears that their No. 3 is a closer match. I have no experience with that particular product though, so my opinion is worth every penny you paid for it.

I have heard that Permatex Ultra Black is an equivalent to OMC Gasket Sealing Compound, but I havent tried it myself.

Heres the =STUFF!!! napa / parts houses have or can get this!!= It is =EXACTLY the same stuf as omc's!! Permatex- aviation gasket sealer--- comesin a round type pint? same as omc with a brush!! This stuff works & will last a lifetime- i have used it for over 40 years!!

Nope, but I've been using it for several years.

And I'm glad to know that I was on the right track with Permatex No. 3 / Aviation Gasket Sealer.
