Not sure where to post this, so feel free to move me, if there is a better place

I have an metal 6 gal. OMC tank that came with a motor. Im ondering, do these tanks have a filter in them?

When i got it, i noticed, when emptying it, there was some rust specs and a rusty color to the fuel.

Is there some way to help this, or should i just toss it?

Rookie,There is usually a small mesh screen on the pickup tube.I would drain the tank, swab the bottom and look for rust and/or pitting. If present, get a new tank.If the bottom is in good shape, refill with a gallon or so of fresh gas and take a sample.Don't forget to clean the hose and primer bulb.If sample is okay, resume using it .
DHP

While I like the OMC metal tanks, they do wear out. I had one recently develop a small hairline crack in the bottom that dumped about 2 gallons in the bilge before I spotted it. The crack started at a small dent in the bottom.
I've also seen the spot welds at the handles break off.

While we are on the subject where can I find a replacement tank ? I have a 56' 15hp evinrude that needs a new tank. I have searched ebay with no luck. :)

Raymondmoyer, search ebay.com for 'pressure tank'. There's over half a dozen for sale right now.

PS - your ancestors needed to learn to spell. :)

Thank you sir, I will do that. And the spelling thing is quite a controversy in my family. It was originally spelled as yours. Do to crappy hand writing it ended up moyer. Go figure :)
