1972 OMC drive 5.7L. There is a hose connection on the drive housing on the transom. We have the drive removed. Can we start the engine with out the drive attached with a hose connected to that connection? Should something be blocked off? I'm not familiar with omc like merc, obviously. lol Does this ole OMC even have a water pump in it ? I see where the exhaust comes out but when we removed the drive i didn't notice how any water gets from the drive to the engine?

Hook the hose directly to the hose going from the transom to the engine (thermostat housing if raw water cooled.

The hose will replace the pump in the drive.

Since it's a stringer drive, the water comes in through a bunch of wierd passages thru the piviot points for the drive.
