I have a late 1986 omc cobra outdrive with the 4 cylinder that i am working on for a co-worker. The cables have all been changed and adjusted properly and the esa is working. The adjustment procedure allows you to either get reverse if you go one way or foward the other. When you do this it won't go into the other gear. The only thing i see wrong is the bellcrank bushings are worn enough to allow the bellcrank to rock in its pivot. To me, this alone would cause excessive play in the system. Is this a common cause of shifter problems after other problems have been ruled out?
