OMC Cobra or Volvo Penta

Hello. New boat owner and I need some help. I have a 1995 Four Winns 190 Horizon. The I/O sterndrive is labeled OMC Cobra but the serial/model says Volvo Penta. I believe that Volvo purchased the OMC company in 1994 and everything labeled OMC from 1995 on is technically a Volvo. I have 2 problems.

1. I want to purchase one of the repair manuals but I am not sure which one.
There is an OMC 1986-1998:

My engine block is charcoal and not red so I think I need the OMC one.

2. My other problem is a broken power steering belt. I have been digging around online to purchase one but I am not entirely sure which one I need. I looked through the OEM listings on this site but cannot find a comparable part for the Volvo part 3853331 (which I think is correct). I may just go to an auto parts store and get one that is the same size. Anyone have a problems using automotive belts in their boat?

I replaced my p/s and alternator belts by having them measured at Autozone. I got the top of the line belts they had to offer, nothing special about the marine applications, the pulleys are the same. Just get the best brand you can.

The Volvo engines between 1995 and 2001 are also charcoal colored. They are basically the same thing so you should be able to buy the volvo manual.

Go to this site and buy the manual based on your engine model number.

What is the complete model number of your engine?

You have the HU series engine and drive. Go to the link bruce58 posted, and look for the HU manual sets. The only thing different between the Volvo and the OMC engines and drives are the serial numbers and model numbers. parts and manuals are the same (except the cover and pages with SN and Model number pages) and the fact that Volvo exists, and OMC sterndrives doesn't

Thanks. Do you know what the rest of the part number references? I know the 50 is for 5.0L but what about the rest?

Hi, I think I have the same engine, check my other posts for pics of it, anyway, for the manual I went down to my local library and picked up the volvo penta manual for 0 dollars. what a deal!
