I have a 5.0 1989 OMC Cobra. I have just replaced the bellows and was having a little problem when I reinstalled the outdrive. It went on very smooth until about the last quarter of an inch. I tried a little force to get it on but it would not go. I put the bolts on and tightened them a little and then pulled the drive back off and noticed four marks on the lip of the new u-joints bellows. I then looked at the old bellows and noticed that they also had these same four indendations. It appears to be where the bearing carrier is pressing up against it. Is this normal? I did align the engine so I know that is not the problem. Thanks.

That is the seal. It is supposed to "crush" in to place.

you aligned the engine correctly? Tool should go in smooth as silk..

Sound like you are good to go to me.. 1/4 in? Shoot that could be old grease in the coupler giving ya grief..
