omc cobra drive swap

Can anybody tell me, will a 97 cobra outdrive work on a boat that has a 92 cobra drive ? I know that a change was made in 94, the 92 is powered by the 5 liter Ford and the 97 is list as being mated to a 5.7 liter. Reason for the swap is the 92 has seen better days and the 97 can be bought for less than $400. with a SS prop.

Probably not.
The earlier one is OMC the later is a mix of OMC/Volvo.
Different shift cables and more.

The 92 will be a Dog-clutch model and the 97 will be a Volvo SX model.

It's been done, but it'll take a LOT more than $400 to assemble all the different parts needed to make it fit.

If you get the matching 5.7L engine, gimbal mount etc, it'll be much easier.

Do you need the upper, the lower or both? I have a lower I could sell you out of a '90. 5.7L
